9 Lives 'Til Midnight
Lead Designer
Combining elements of traditional point-and-click adventure games, with an all-new take on teamwork, 9 Lives ‘Til Midnight is based around self-cooperation. The player controls cat detective, Sonny Ray, and his team of nine lives in a fully 3D-environment heavily inspired by film noir. In the search for his missing girlfriend, Muffin, Sonny finds himself deep in the criminal underbelly of Cat City, and face-to-face with the Feline Mafia!
By using the ability to re-live moments in the past, Sonny Ray can make the most of any situation. Sonny can control himself during multiple moments in time, cooperating with himself. This means that where one cool cat might not have been enough, you are that team! Sonny’s 9 Lives also allows him to alter the past, and to change the future.
My specific duties in developing this game were: leading and managing a 5-person design team, setting up puzzles and gameplay using in-house tools, holding tutorials on said tools, design of core gameplay mechanics, character development, paper prototypes, and coordinating playtesting sessions. If you would like to take a look at some of the documentation I wrote for 9 Lives 'Til Midnight, please check out the Documents section of the website.
9 Lives ‘Til Midnight was produced by a team of 15 cross-disciplinary students over the course of 8 months at The University of Central Florida: FIEA (Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy)
