Weapon Pack: 40k Weapons

lEVEl: IMperial Ruins

SwineFluScreen1

The map is based off of a Warhammer 40k 'battleground' that a friend of mine and I played on at hobby shop.
It was really fun to try and emulate a 'real' environment in Unreal, but of course some creative liberties were taken.
Also, In the spirit of Warhammer 40k, I have re-modeled and textured several of the UT3 weapons to look and act like 40k weapons. They are currently not implemented in the level, but the files are inside of the rar file. This is also the level set I use when teaching my class at AI, as it contains simple examples of many complex elements of the Unreal Engine. Note that it is designed to be used with an editor, not directly loaded into the game.

- Duel: UDK Tactics

This level was the primary battleground used in the game Duel: UDK Tactics. In addition to the level's design and construction, I also set up and implemented dynamic lights, sound/particle emitters, and physics volumes. Each side has a small bunker in which they spawn and select their weapons. Once all three units a player controls exits the bunker and enter the forest, the game timer begins. The level is divided diagonally by a river, which the players can swim across or hide in. But, be careful, players who end their turn under water run the risk of drowning! Each side has a number of trees, rocks, hills, and other structures to use as cover. I also placed a number of tall landmarks (powerlines, a windmill, a waterfall, etc.) around the level so that players could easily navigate the level.

I modeled each of these weapons in Maya and textured them using Photoshop. Each weapon was fictionally constructed from wood, brass, and iron in order to fit the steampunk aesthetic my team was going for. Before they were ready for integration into Unreal, I took them into 3DSmax where I rigged their bones and set up their firing animations. The weapons from left to right are: Pistol, Sniper Rife, Rifle, Rocket Launcher, Sword, and Healing Gun. I achieved 'steam powered' effects by creating new particles (using Unreal Cascade) and by applying new sounds to each weapon. I also balanced each weapon's range, rate of fire, ammo, damage, and special abilities using UnrealScript. The Sniper Rifle is a modified version of "The Plug-and-Play Sniper Rifle" found on the UDK forums.

lEVEL: City Standoff
Unreal Tournament 3

SwineFluScreen1 SwineFluScreen1 SwineFluScreen1

I designed and constructed City Standoff, to re-create the thrill and excitement of the original Unreal Tournament's Assault mode: A team-based game where one side attacks an objective that the other team defends. The Attackers win if they can destroy the objective and The Defenders win if the objective is still standing after the time runs out. Set in an urban warehouse, complete with destructible environments, City Standoff is a great addition to any gamers’ map collection; but a must-have for any old school UT players.

lEVEL: Island Assault
Unreal tournament 3

Designed to initially be an expirement with water volumes, this level quickly became more and more suited to a Vehicle Capture-the-Flag map, I eventually just gave in, and went for it. Two sides control small islands connected by two bridges. These islands can be attacked from any angle, especially by clever aquatic-commandos! Designed to be either a VTCF, CTF, or Greed map, Island Assault is best played with 4-8 players. I also set up some AI-pathing, so that the player can play this game against the computer if they want to.

Weapon mOD: "Nerf Mavrick"
Unreal Tournament

SwineFluScreen1 SwineFluScreen1 SwineFluScreen1

A new weapon I created based off the very popular toy gun, the Nerf Maverick. This revolver-style weapon uses a lot of the functionality of the traditional Unreal Tournament Enforcer but also this weapon uses new meshes (that I made in Maya), textures (that I made in Photoshop), sounds, animations and particles. And of course, the darts do stick to the walls.

LEVEL: The Untitled Museum

Unreal Tournament 3

SwineFluScreen1

The Untitled Museum is my first Unreal Tournament 3 level, and my first real attempt to do anything video-game related. I think it payed off. The artwork in the museum are pieces of art that has been considered 'controversial.' I wanted to put art that inspires conflict and debate into Unreal Tournament to function as the backdrop for the UT-brand carnage. There are several static meshes I created in Maya and textured using Photoshop and the UT editor. They're in the package that is labled 'artwork' along with all the paintings and sculptures. Have fun, level builders!
