MEGATOKYO
by: Piro and Largo

Megatoyo was one of the first webcomics I discovered. I found it off a link on Real Life, and it's unique brand of gamer / anime / all-things-geek based humor is so right up my alley that I should be charging them rent. Origionally created by Fred Gallagher (Piro) and Rodney Caston

(Largo) in the summer of 2000, Megatokyo has released more than 1000 pages of content, as well as a multi-volume manga-style re-production of their comics. Several years ago Largo left the series and now Piro is in complete control of the project.

The Story follows anime and dating game fanatic Piro and his FPS-playing, Zombie-hunting, "l33t master" best friend, Largo. The two decide to go to Japan after failing to get into E3. Upon arival they spend all their money and are unable to return stateside. Can two American dorks survive Tokyo?

Megatokyo is also one of the few serialized comics, meaning that each 'page' immediatly follows the previous 'page,' that I read on a daily basis. I prefer comics with story arcs, not continuous story the whole time, because the comics are updated so infrequently, by the time a new one is up, you've long forgotten the previous one. This makes serialization difficult for me to enjoy.

Since Largo's departure, Megatokyo has taken a more drastic turn towards plot and away from comedy. This can be seen as a blessing and a curse. What the reader will find lacking in the humor department, they'll find a plot-heavy story with interesting characters....that will still make you chuckel from time to time.

Mac Hall
Three Pannel Soul
by: Ian McConville and Mathew Boyd

By Far, Mac Hall is my favorite comic of all time, digital or otherwise. The combination of the humor and the art just strike chord after chord with me. I found Mac Hall off a link on Megatokyo, as did I'm sure most of their starting fan base. And I bookmarked the comic with all my other ones that I read. As I started reading comics daily Mac Hall stood out on a whole different level from the other ones. The artist, Ian McConville origionally was writing the comics himself. Eventually Mathew Boyd signed on to write the comics.

The "story" origionally followed the Artist and Writer and their cast of friends in their dormitory life living MacDonalld Hall. Matt was a journalism major, and Ian was an art major. I'm not saying that it was Mac Hall that made me want to study art at GMU, but it definatly pushed me in the right direction. The adventures of these miscrients leads them on road trips, to computer theft, to attending weddings and even some anime conventions. These guys are really my heroes.

On Sept. 22, 2006 Mac Hall ended. The duo decided to start work on a new comic called Three Pannel Soul. It doesn't really have a cast or a continuous story, it's far more abstract than Mac Hall. However, the artwork is still amazing and the comics still poke my brain. They dont make me laugh as much any more, but they do make me think from time to time which is more than I can say for most other comics.

OTHER LINKS
I actually read a whole lot of webcomics. Every day I check them multiple times. It's really easy in firefox. They're all just one folder and I can set them up to open all at once, and just scroll through reading the ones I dont recognize. I'll be adding more the comics I read to this list as I have time. So for now I'm just going to list them to the right. I'll be writing more reviews and doing more guest art as I have time.
